December is synonymous with the season of giving. It’s a time to celebrate and spend time with friends and family. But did you know that to strategic businesses and startups, December is savored for a much different reason. December is the most important month for sales. With five Decembers worth of experience selling online survey software here at FluidSurveys, we’ve noticed some trends that will help you increase sales and start the new year off on the right foot. Here are 5 tips that will help you make money in December:
1. Recognize that it’s the end of fiscal year for a lot of companies
This means more people will be out looking to spend the remainders of their end-of-year budgets. More people looking to spend equals a greater chance that they will be open to buying your product.
2. Take advantage of deeper pockets
Businesses that shop in December will often have a significant amount of their budgets left over. So it may make sense to find out how much they have and see if you can sell them one or two years of service, or multi-year bundles in order to get the maximum sales value.
3. Ask if your product might work as a gift
Depending on what type of product you are selling, you may be able to take advantage of the gift market. If people can buy your product as a gift for others, then you should have gift card or gift purchase programs ready in advance.
4. Close all sales by the 15th
A lot of people are on vacation during various times in December, but things really slow down after the 15th. Do whatever you can do to close any pending sales before then, otherwise you run the risk of having those sales carry over into January.
5. Utilize referral programs
Ask customers if there are any other departments within their organization that may be looking for your product that month. If you’re a consumer company, solicit referrals and give people incentives to give these referrals.
Finally, buy, buy, buy. Okay, so this one isn’t about bringing in money, but it will save you some. December is a great time to buy things because sales people are locking down their final sales numbers for the year, so you can obtain extra discounts.
