Five valuable learning and development trends you need to know

From 2016 to 2017, spending on organizational training increased from 70.6 billion to 93.6 billion dollars in the U.S. Does that tell you anything about how important learning and development has become?

Or perhaps spending is increasing so that companies can offer content and courses that employees will actually want to read. After all, engaging courses create better knowledge retention. And with better knowledge retention comes a positive ROI on that training spend.

How can you create training that engages, entices and excites? Here are five learning and development trends that will light a fire under your employees.

    1. Employee knowledge hubs
      The world is moving at a faster pace than ever before. Employees have to act quickly when they encounter a common problem while on the job. Having a central place that all employees can access—from using tools like Google Docs for small teams to a full knowledge database for larger teams—empowers teams to efficiently problem-solve and find information. Knowledge really is power!
    2. Learning personalization
      No two people learn the same way. So why is the blanket approach still being utilized in corporate training? Human beings crave personalized experiences in everything they do. From shopping and dining out, to customer support and advertising, personalized experiences are everywhere—including corporate training.
      This means creating custom learning paths that take your learners’ needs into account. It means including more examples, more videos, more visual aides, and more practicals. Say goodbye to the one-size-fits-all solution.
    3. Responsive course design and greater accessibility
      The average employee is using more than one mobile device in their daily lives, and perhaps some of that time is spent on training. The need for courses that are responsive and accessible across multi-platforms is vital to the success of any great training program.
