Essential parts of a Pay Stub

There are 7 elements of a receipt that you should be aware of, some of which are necessary while others can be used for customization.

  1. Your Company Name & Address: The name and address of your company is usually displayed at the top of a pay stub in order to indicate the company that has provided the payment listed on the pay stub.
  2. Employee Name & ID: The name and ID of the employee who received the payment is also listed on the pay stub in order to differentiate between pay stubs and ensure the right employee receives their associated pay stub.
  3. Check Number: A check number is also listed on each pay stub in order to indicate the paycheque that the pay stub is associated with.
  4. Pay Date and Period Ending: The pay date indicates when payment to your employee was processed. The period ending is the date on which the bi-weekly pay period for your employee ended. This helps you keep track of when you've paid your employees and for what pay period they were compensated for.
  5. Gross Pay and Net Pay: The gross pay amount is the total amount of compensation your employee has earned before taxes and deductions are applied. The net pay amount is the amount paid to your employee after taxes and deductions have been applied.
  6. Deductions: The deductions section displays any applicable deductions to the gross pay associated with the pay stub, along with a description of what the deductions were for.
  7. YTD: The YTD components will typically depict amount of gross pay an employee has earned within the year up until the pay date for this pay stub, along with total net pay and total deductions for the year up until that point.

What’s a Rich Text element?

The rich text element allows you to create and format headings, paragraphs, blockquotes, images, and video all in one place instead of having to add and format them individually. Just double-click and easily create content.

Static and dynamic content editing

A rich text element can be used with static or dynamic content. For static content, just drop it into any page and begin editing. For dynamic content, add a rich text field to any collection and then connect a rich text element to that field in the settings panel. Voila!

How to customize formatting for each rich text

Headings, paragraphs, blockquotes, figures, images, and figure captions can all be styled after a class is added to the rich text element using the "When inside of" nested selector system.

FAQs

Is a pay stub the same as a paycheque?

Although paycheques and pay stubs are generally provided together, they are not one and the same. A paycheque is a directive to a financial institution that approves the transfer of funds from the employer to the employee. A pay stub, on the other hand, has no monetary value and is simply an explanatory document.

Can I really create a pay stub for free?

Definitely! As long as you have the required information, there’s no need to shell out money for a fancy software to create pay stubs. With our pay stub generator, you can get a customized pay stub created and emailed to you, ready for use in a matter of minutes for free.

What should a pay stub look like?

Pay stubs generally show how an employee’s income for a particular pay period was derived, along with line items of the taxes withheld, voluntary deductions and any other benefits received. Further specifics may be required by state or local governments.

How do I create a pay stub for myself if I am self employed?

Unlike salaried workers, self-employed people don’t typically receive paycheques. But they may sometimes require one, such as when applying for mortgages or credit cards. In most cases, a self-employed person’s pay stub will look the same as an employees paystub, but there are a couple of main differences to pay attention to:

The company and employee information fields will be the same The pay period, frequency, and amount may not be consistent as self-employed people may be paid per project instead of per hour

What should you do with your paycheque stub?

Pay stubs are used to verify payment accuracy and may be necessary when settling wage/hour disputes. For this reason, employees may want to save their pay stubs, but aren’t required to do so. Employers, however, must keep payroll records for the specific lengths of time mandated by federal and state governments.
