Five ways a mobile site generates income for a small business

In today’s web-centric consumer world, a website is about as fundamental to your business as a business card. But did you know that having a mobile-friendly website is just as important? As more people adopt mobile devices as their primary web browser, businesses need to adapt if they wish to use their online presence as a means of generating leads. Here are five ways you can use your mobile website to generate income for your small business:

1. Access local traffic

When consumers use a mobile device for web searches, they are often out of the home researching local services (i.e. “Sushi restaurants in Toronto”). In fact, 1 in 3 searches made on a mobile device are searches for local services. If you own a business that relies on local traffic, having a mobile website that clearly conveys your contact information is a revenue-generating tool.

2. Rank higher in search engine results

Search engine optimization experts agree that having a mobile website definitely improves your ranking in the eyes of Google. Google has even gone on record to say that having a mobile website will increase your chances of being found on their search engine. Again, if you rely on local traffic, the revenue-generating potential of a mobile website can’t be overlooked.

3. Take the call

A good mobile website calls consumers to action. This definitely becomes easier when the consumer’s browsing device doubles as a phone. It has been reported that 9 out of 10 smartphone searches result in an action (call, visit, or sale), with 77 percent of surfers actually contacting the business after searching. If you don’t have a mobile website, you deprive your small business of the opportunity to benefit financially from these calls!

4. Improve your users’ experience

While it is true that your website can be viewed on a mobile device, it hardly makes for a streamlined browsing experience. Since a website isn’t optimized to be browsed on mobile devices, visitors are required to scroll or zoom in to view any of your content, making it difficult for them to contact you. A well-designed mobile website makes it easy for visitors to see what your small business has to offer.

5. Adapt

Currently over 87 percent of the world’s population has a mobile device of some kind. 25 percent of these mobile users are mobile-only, meaning they only use a mobile device for web use (no PC). That’s 1.5 billion people in the world solely using mobile devices to view the web! In the face of such striking statistics it is vital that small businesses adapt to access these vast numbers of mobile consumers.
