Wave provides small business owners with award-winning financial software to help them manage their finances. We recognize that small business owners come from all walks of life, and from different places around the world, and that’s how we have shaped our team and our work culture.

We work hard to create an inclusive workplace where Wavers of all backgrounds can come in and contribute in their own way to our team. Over the past few months, our efforts have been recognized by Great Places to Work, who have awarded us with various distinctions. We are very proud that every Waver has played, and continues to play, an integral part in receiving these awards.

2019 Best Workplaces for Millennials

Most recently, we received a spot on the "Best Workplaces for Millennials" list.We invest in Wavers from day one, aiming to grow and advance their careers at Wave, and beyond. In 2016, we introduced a mentorship program specifically designed for skill sharing: a voluntary program that pairs up two Wavers from different professional backgrounds and allows them to build new skills in a one-on-one setting, in topics ranging from project management to software development, to leadership, and beyond.

"Wave is filled with some of the best and brightest minds around. That's why it's such a powerful initiative to connect them to share knowledge around areas of their passion. Working through a structured 12-week program, Wavers get the opportunity to go deeper into technical, functional, or soft-skills they'd love to learn from a fellow Waver. Huge learnings, new connections, and general awesomeness - that's the Wave Mentorship Program in a nutshell!" - Josh Siegal, VP, Organizational Effectiveness.

Since starting the program, more than 150 graduates have completed a mentorship in a variety of fields. Wavers have participated as both mentors and mentees, sharing their skills and knowledge, and fostering a stronger creative community.

“I started at Wave as a Customer Support Hero, and during that time, I participated in many mentorship programs... This mentorship program, along with support from my managers and my hard work and dedication, allowed me to find my niche and passion.” - Krista Gerard, Loss Mitigation Manager.

2019 Best Workplaces for Inclusion

At Wave, we believe a diverse and inclusive culture is necessary for a winning team—you don’t get innovative products without diversity. The Best Workplaces for Inclusion award recognizes that same diversity and breadth of ethnicity, age, and gender that we love about our team.

“Our culture of empowering each Waver, and providing mentoring or training in every facet from technology to internal communication, elevates the entire team. Further, we believe it makes Wave a great workplace not just for women, but for everyone,” says Ashira Gobrin, Senior Vice President of People and Culture.

We promote diversity in the workplace every day, in everything we do.

We pulled together some stats about Wavers to see what connects us and what makes us special. One of our favourite nuggets: 55% of Wavers have been, or are currently, a small business owner!

2019 Best Workplaces for Women

To be eligible for the Best Workplaces for Women award, Wave is required to be GPTW certified in the past year, have a minimum of 15 female employees, and have 90% of employees agree that our workplace is safe, and people are treated fairly regardless of gender. This essentially means that our qualification is entirely based on our score from female Wavers, and we wouldn’t be a recipient of this award without a qualifying rating from them. We are so proud to see that our efforts to foster a fair and equal workspace are resonating with our team, and that everyone at Wave feels empowered and supported to effect positive change.

In the last couple of years, we’ve invested time and effort to move the needle on the gender breakdown for our ever-growing team. We’ve shifted from 80% male/20% female to 62% male/38% female, with an increasing number of women in senior roles. That needle is moving in all of our departments: from marketing, to finance, to product, too.

How do we make Wave an equal space for all? Our approach is hiring the best people, and then investing in their skills and careers.

What’s next?

All of these efforts have also earned us spots on the 2019 Best Workplaces™ for Mental Wellness, 2019 Best Workplaces™ in Canada – 100-999 employees and 2019 Best Workplaces™ in Technology by GPTW.

Every day at Wave, we strive to get better. We are all aligned in our overall goal of empowering the brave entrepreneur, and this goal starts from within. Strengthening our internal cultureand acting on the same values plays a key role in building for small businesses.
